West Virginia Chamber Announces Rollout of Poverty Project

May 23, 2022

Charleston, W.Va. – The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce is rolling out its new “Poverty Project,” designed to raise awareness to the issues of persistent poverty that plague so many citizens in West Virginia. The project, managed by West Virginia Chamber Communications Manager Kaylin Jorge, highlights several statistics that require continued focus.

West Virginia Chamber President Steve Roberts stated, “Too many of our fellow citizens – and especially children – are facing severe poverty. Our goal is to bring renewed focus to poverty issues in an effort to find much-needed solutions for our fellow West Virginians. Our core belief at the West Virginia Chamber is that a good job helps solve many societal problems, and our focus needs to be on what can be done to attract that type of economic development to the state. Job creation and economic development will help eliminate joblessness and despair.”

Those wanting to learn more about the Chamber’s poverty project can do so by visiting https://wvchamber.com/Issues-Advocacy/Poverty-Project.aspx. Visitors can also learn more about one of the solutions being pursued by the Chamber – Jobs for West Virginia’s Graduates – and how it is helping to make sure in-need students are given the tools needed to be successful after high school.

Roberts continued, “At the Chamber, we believe we have been making important strides toward making West Virginia a better place to live, work and raise a family. We must, however, strive to do more and continue thinking outside the box. Working together, we can help improve the lives of countless West Virginians and create a better future for our state as a whole.

Members of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce are your small business neighbors. Chamber members employ over half of our state’s workforce and are found in every county and region of our state. More information on the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce can be found at www.wvchamber.com.
