As business leaders from across the state gather for this year’s West Virginia Chamber Annual Meeting & Business Summit, one company’s presence will be especially visible. TC Energy, the presenting sponsor of the event, will also be the lead tenant in a new purpose-built office complex in downtown Charleston, developed by Remington. The building will serve as a regional hub for TC Energy’s operations in Appalachia.
Headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, TC Energy is one of North America’s leading energy infrastructure companies. Its network includes over 58,000 miles of natural gas pipelines that connect major producing regions with markets throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico and power generation assets with capacity to power more than 4 million homes. The company moves the natural gas that fuels electricity generation, manufacturing, commercial operations and homes across North America.
And West Virginia has long been an important part of that network.
Through Columbia Gas Transmission, TC Energy’s roots in the state trace back to 1906, when Columbia’s predecessor company was founded in Huntington. Today, TC Energy maintains one of its largest operational footprints in the country here, with approximately 2,800 miles of pipeline, 38 compressor stations and more than 1,500 meter stations across the Mountain State.
The new facility in downtown Charleston represents the next chapter in TC Energy’s long-standing relationship with West Virginia.
“West Virginia is important to our business because this is a place where people, energy, infrastructure and opportunity come together,” said TC Energy President and CEO François Poirier. “When we look at West Virginia, we see a state that has played a central role in making the American economy what it is today and is now helping write the country’s next chapter — one built on growth, resilience and the ability to compete and win.”
He said that as demand continues to grow, so will West Virginia’s position within the energy sector.
“West Virginia sits at the heart of America,” he said. “When energy is close to where it’s needed, industries grow faster, costs stay lower and communities prosper together.”
The strength of West Virginia’s workforce is another reason for the company’s continued investment in the state, Poirier said, noting the state’s industry expertise that has been built over generations. TC Energy currently employs more than 700 West Virginians.
“What stands out most in West Virginia is its people — the pride they take in their work and the depth of their experience,” he said. “You can’t fuel the next wave of growth without people who know how to build, operate and maintain critical infrastructure. We have some of the nation’s best right here in West Virginia.”
Beyond business operations, TC Energy has earned a reputation for investing in the communities where it operates. Through charitable giving, employee volunteer initiatives, educational partnerships and support for local nonprofit organizations, the company works to strengthen the communities that support its workforce and infrastructure. In West Virginia, that commitment delivers a substantial economic impact, including more than $53 million annually in property taxes, more than $11 million in state income taxes and hundreds of thousands of dollars in community investments each year.
“We focus on delivering reliable, affordable energy — but our role in communities extends far beyond the energy infrastructure systems we operate,” Poirier said. “We are a part of the communities we serve, and that means creating jobs, supporting local organizations and helping strengthen the places where our employees live and work. If you’re going to be part of a community for decades, you have to contribute to its long-term success. That’s how you build trust over time — and that’s how you create impact that lasts well beyond the project itself.”
This emphasis on community involvement and partnership aligns with the goals of the Annual Meeting & Business Summit, which brings together leaders from business, government and industry to discuss the opportunities and challenges shaping West Virginia’s future. As presenting sponsor of the event, TC Energy is supporting conversations around energy, infrastructure, workforce development and economic competitiveness.
“This event brings together the people shaping the future of this state,” said Poirier, who will speak at the event. “These are real conversations about jobs, growth and where West Virginia is headed next — and those conversations matter.”
West Virginia Chamber of Commerce President Steve Roberts said TC Energy’s continued presence and investment attest to the strength of West Virginia’s energy sector and its importance to the nation’s energy future.
“West Virginia is one of the top five energy-producing states in the nation,” Roberts said. “TC Energy’s continued investment in our state reinforces our reputation as a global energy powerhouse and highlights the critical role West Virginia will play in meeting future energy demands.”
Poirier echoed that optimism.
“If you want to see where America’s next chapter is being written, you don’t have to look far,” he said. “It’s happening right here in West Virginia.”
