Chemours representative speaks at chamber summit

White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. – Chemours facilities in West Virginia are at the forefront of providing materials for high-technological products, according to the company’s president of Advanced Performance Materials.
Gerardo Familiar, president of Advanced Performance Materials at Chemours, was interviewed by Rebecca McPhail, president of the West Virginia Manufacturers Association, this week at the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting and Business Summit at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs.
Familiar cited Chemours’ history of industry leadership in the state at its Belle and Washington Works production facilities, the latter of which will celebrate its 75th anniversary on Sept. 9 in Parkersburg.
McPhail and Familiar discussed how Chemours’ West Virginia facilities are vital in the responsible manufacture of products for technologies such as electric vehicles, sustainable hydrogen and advanced electronics that are seen as essential for the country’s economic prosperity and national security. They also talked about the company’s plan to grow in the state, increasing its capacity in key technologies like Teflon,which is critical to semiconductor manufacturing.
“This state is at the center of these critical advancements,” Familiar said. “It has the right employee base, the history and a robust business community that works together to keep it at the cutting edge of enabling these technologies.”
The company is looking to grow both its industrial and community presence in the state in the next several years, Familiar said. He spoke about partnerships with West Virginia University at Parkersburg, West Virginia State University, United Way organizations and support for S.T.E.M. high school, middle school and elementary school programs.
“Chemours’ leadership in innovation, in corporate citizenship and community engagement, and its continued commitment to growth in our state is important to everyone here because it sets an example and shows other companies this is a great place to build their businesses,” McPhail said.
