HUNTINGTON – U.S. Rep. Evan Jenkins, R-W.Va., received the Spirit of Enterprise Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce during a visit to Huntington on Thursday morning.
In March, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce honored 206 members of the House of Representatives and 32 members of the Senate with the annual award, which is given in recognition of their support of pro-growth, pro-jobs policies during the first session of the 113th Congress.
“The Spirit of Enterprise Award recognizes the men and women who have demonstrated their commitment to supporting pro-growth policies in the 113th Congress,” U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue said in a news release.
Jenkins accepted his award during a visit to Huntington Steel & Supply on 3rd Avenue, where he discussed the importance of manufacturing as well as the need to encourage more businesses to come to West Virginia. Joining him for the occasion were Bill Bissett, president and CEO of the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce; Steve Roberts, president of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce; and Rob Engstrom, senior vice president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The Spirit of Enterprise Award is given annually to members of Congress based on their votes on critical business legislation, which recently included measures to reopen the federal government and raise the national debt ceiling, reform the nation’s broken immigration system, delay enforcement of the employer mandate provision of the Affordable Care Act and ease approval of the Keystone XL pipeline.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors and regions as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
