NEWS RELEASE: West Virginia Chamber Celebrates National Win by West Virginia Students

April 16, 2026

Charleston, W.Va. — The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the West Virginia Chamber Foundation are proud to celebrate the student team from Huff Consolidated Elementary and Middle School for their historic victory in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow National Competition.

Representing Wyoming County, these students secured the Community Choice Vote, placing them among the top three teams in the nation. Their winning project, an innovative water filtration system, is a testament to the ingenuity and problem-solving skills the West Virginia Chamber seeks to foster through its continued advocacy for educational excellence.

In addition to national acclaim, the team earned a $110,000 award for classroom technology and resources, further strengthening educational opportunities for students at their school.

“The West Virginia Chamber is incredibly proud of these students for proving that West Virginia’s youth can compete and win on the national stage,” Steve Roberts, President of the West Virginia Chamber, said. “Their work demonstrates the kind of innovation and dedication that will help shape West Virginia’s future.”

This achievement underscores one of the West Virginia Chamber’s core missions – advancing policies that strengthen K-12 education and better align student outcomes with the needs of an evolving global workforce. By championing initiatives that expand resources and promote innovation, the Chamber and its Foundation are dedicated to ensuring that the next generation of West Virginians is prepared to drive the state’s prosperity.

The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the West Virginia Chamber Foundation congratulate the students, faculty, and the entire Wyoming County community on this remarkable achievement.
