W.Va. Chamber Encouraged by Jobs Report
November 18, 2018
Charleston, W.Va. – The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce is encouraged by the latest state data release from Workforce WV. The new report from Workforce WV was made public on Wednesday afternoon, January 17.
West Virginia Chamber President Steve Roberts said, “This data confirms that West Virginia’s economy is improving. New jobs help families in so many ways and give much needed hope for a better future.”
According to the report, when comparing December 2017 with December 2016, West Virginia saw an increase of 2,500 in total employment. Gains in the following individual sectors were also reported:
- Mining & Logging: +1,000
- Construction: +2,600
- Educational & Health Services: +3,000
- Leisure & Hospitality: +1,000
Manufacturing employment remains slightly down from last December, but saw overall growth during the last year and remains up 800 jobs since January 2017.
Roberts continued, “Economic news like this is encouraging and would not have been possible without the hard work of the West Virginia Legislature. A better business climate that attracts jobs must continue as a high priority. Thanks to legislation to reduce taxes and limit regulations, we are now seeing job creation that helps West Virginia’s working families. While much more remains to be done, we are clearly on the right track.”
