West Virginia Chamber Congratulates Appointees to New Intermediate Appellate Court
December 28, 2021
Charleston, W.Va. – The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce congratulates those appointed today by Governor Jim Justice to serve on the state’s new Intermediate Court of Appeals.
The governor received a list of people highly qualified to serve in these important positions and we extend our best wishes to all the nominees.
West Virginia now joins the more than 40 states that have an Intermediate Court of Appeals.
West Virginia Chamber President Steve Roberts stated, “I would like to wholeheartedly congratulate Thomas E. Scarr, Daniel W. Greear and Donald A. Nickerson Jr. on their appointment to this court. I have no doubt whatsoever that these three will work to interpret and apply the law in a fair manner to all parties who come before this appellate body.”
The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce was a long-time advocate for the creation of an Intermediate Appellate Court and worked tirelessly to pass the law creating it this past legislative session. The new court was first recommended over a decade ago by an independent commission chaired by former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.
Roberts continued, “I would be remiss if I did not give special thanks to Senate Judiciary Chairman Charles Trump. Senator Trump has been a champion of an intermediate appellate court and this would not have occurred without his hard efforts. I would also like to give special thanks to Chief Justice Evan Jenkins and the rest of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals. They have spent this entire year working to create the best intermediate court of appeals in the nation and I am confident they have succeeded at that goal.”
Roberts concluded, “Lastly, I want to thank Governor Justice. The Governor was a big supporter of creating this court and has done an outstanding job in appointing highly qualified individuals who will work to bring more fairness, predictability and stability to the judiciary in West Virginia.”
