West Virginia Chamber Urges Senators Manchin and Capito to Oppose Lauren McFerran Re-Nomination to National Labor Relations Board

Charleston, W.Va. – The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce is urging U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Joe Manchin to oppose the re-nomination of Lauren McFerran for another term on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Ms. McFerran was nominated by President Biden for this post, and outgoing Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is planning to schedule a vote on her nomination before the newly-elected Republican majority is seated in January.
West Virginia Chamber President Steve Roberts stated, “There are a number of problems with the late movements by Senator Schumer to try and ram this nomination through at the last minute. The American people spoke clearly and decisively in November in desiring a change for the direction of our country. Notably, the elections produced a change in majority control for the United States Senate.”
During her tenure as chair of the NLRB, Ms. McFerran has led an agency that has been embroiled in controversy. Among these problems are controversial decisions on the definition of an independent contractor, allowing workplace behavior that disregards Civil Rights Laws, restricting employer speech rights and undermining secret ballot elections – something that is the bedrock of the American way.
Roberts continued, “Senator Schumer has had ample time to act on this nomination. Acting in such fashion in the final few weeks of the Biden Administration and a Democratic Senate Majority clearly disregards the will of the American people. That is why we are urging our two senators, Senator Capito and Senator Manchin, to reject this nomination.”
